The Daily Haiku: January 2006

Hiding in the house,
Gigantic owls hunting us
They track the motion.

- A nightmare

Knife cuts through the sky,
Glowing, radiant, and sharp,
The moon in crescent.

A mist in my eyes
See all through a foggy haze
But what I can't see...

The things that scare me,
Things beyond understanding,
Things that entice me.

Brush touches the page,
An ink line widens outward.
Bamboo leaf is born.

Crescent moon watches
A quiet and sleeping world.
Faint howl of the wolf.

Sway to the rhythm.
Trance-like melodies within.
Pulled beyond reason.

The canal fills up
Water nearing the bulkhead
But no overflow.

Fury of the Sky,
Tearing across the landscape,
Gale winds punish all.

Evil monkey lives,
Howling inside of my head,
Wants a banana.

Friday the Thirteenth.
An eerie fog dominates
everything I see.

A mind-numbing haze,
Not quite awake or alert,
Eyes droop slowly down.

Weather uncommon,
Mild days in January.
Where is all the snow?

What is this I hear?
Smokin' Steve is now engaged?
Doooooooom! Mwahahahaaaaaaa!

Congrats, man!

Weekend passes by,
How droll and bored it becomes,
Unending routine.

Attention received,
and I laugh in mockery,
at Karl's big dumb head.

Whispers of the False,
that prey on guilt and weakness,
Never shall I fall.

Energy surrounds,
The torrent and renewal,
A life-giving storm.

Thirst overwhelming,
Divinity in coffee,
Mmmm, Columbian.

A new year beckons,
with one main resolution:
to get healthier.
